Create a recipe

Tip  Click on the hyperlinks next to the arrows to expand each section or click the show all link at the top right of this page.

  1. Select the Recipe Navigator tab.
  2. How?

  3. On the Action menu, point to New, and then click Recipe.
  4. - or -

    Right-click on the navigator treeview and then, on the popup menu, point to New, and then click Recipe.

    - or -

    Select a recipe in the Navigator treeview and click New on the task toolbar.

  5. Click the Recipe tab.
  6. Enter the recipe properties.
    1. Type the name of the recipe in the Recipe Name box.
    2. Click the Cookbook Chapter ellipsis button to select a chapter for the recipe.
    3. Click the Photograph ellipsis button to select a photograph for the recipe.
    4. Click the Recipe Scan ellipsis button to select a scnned image for the recipe.
    5. Tip  The recipe scan feature is useful if you want to preserve a scanned image of an entire recipe (e.g. a handwritten copy of an heirloom recipe).

    6. Type the recipe's preparation time in the Preparation Time box.
    7. Type the recipe's cooking time in the Cooking Time box.
    8. Type the total time to prepare the recipe in the Ready In box.
    9. Type the recipe servings in the Servings box.
    10. Type the recipe yield (e.g. 4 muffins or 1 loaf) in the Yield box.
    11. Click the Recipe Type ellipsis button to select one or more types for the recipe.

    13. Type the recipe comments in the Comments box.
    14. Note  Only the recipe name and cookbook chapter are mandatory. All other recipe information is optional.

  7. Click the Ingredients tab.
  8. Enter the recipe ingredients.
    1. Click Add to add a new ingredient row.
    2. Type the ingredient quantity in the Quantity column.
    3. Type the ingredient unit in the Unit column.
    4. Type the ingredient name in the Ingredient column.
    5. Click Link to link the ingredient to the ingredient database.
    6. How?

      Tip  Click Move Up or Move Down to change the order of the ingredients.

      Tip  Click Link All to link all of the ingredients at once.

      Tip  Click Heading to make the selected ingredient row a heading.

      Tip  Click Enable Word Assist to enable or disable the Word Assist (type-ahead) feature.

      Tip  Click Word Assist to edit the list of words used by the Word Assist feature.

  9. Click the Procedure tab.
  10. Enter the recipe procedure.
    1. Click Add to add a new procedure row.
    2. Type the procedure in the Procedure column.
    3. Tip  Click Move Up or Move Down to change the order of the procedure rows.

      Tip  Click Heading to make the selected procedure row a heading.

      Tip  Click anywhere inside a procedure row and click Split to split the row into two rows at the selected point.

      Tip  Click Image to associate an image with the procedure row.
  11. Click the Nutrition tab.
  12. Enter the recipe nutrition information.
    1. Type the serving size in the Serving Size box.
    2. Type the nutrient values in the Nutrient boxes.
    3. Click Calculate From Ingredients to calculate the nutrient values instead of typing them.
    4. How?

      Note  Nutritional information is optional, but if any information is entered, the serving size must be entered also.

  13. Click the Tips tab.
  14. Enter the recipe tips.
    1. Click Add to add a new tip row.
    2. Type the tip in the Tip column.
    3. Tip  Click Move Up or Move Down to change the order of the tips.

  15. Click the Reviews tab.
  16. Enter the recipe reviews.
    1. Click Add to add a new review row.
    2. Select a rating from the Rating list.
    3. Type the name of the reviewer in the Reviewer box.
    4. Type the review date in the Date box.
    5. Type the review text in the Review box.
  17. Click the Techniques tab.
  18. Select the cooking techniques used in the recipe.
    1. Click Add to select a cooking technique.
  19. Click the Media tab.
  20. Select the media (audio and video files) to associate with the recipe.
    1. Click Add to select a media file.
  21. Click the Author tab.
  22. Enter the recipe author information.
    1. Type the recipe author in the Author box.
    2. Type the recipe source in the Source box.
    3. Type the web page of the recipe source in the Web Page box.
    4. Click the Photograph ellipsis button to select a photograph for the author or recipe source.
    5. Tip  Click Use source information from last recipe to copy the author information from your last recipe.

    6. Under Author Notes, click Add to add an author note row.
    7. Type the author note in the Author Note column.
    8. Tip  Click Move Up or Move Down to change the order of the author notes.

  23. Click Check Spelling to check the spelling of the recipe.

  25. Click OK.
