Publication tutorial

This tutorial is designed to lead new users through the process of creating of a publication (another name for a cookbook formatted for publishing). By following these steps carefully you will become familiar with the major features of the publishing interface.

Click on the hyperlinks next to the arrows to expand each section or click the show all link at the top right of this page.

Tip Make sure Microsoft Word is not running before starting this tutorial.

  1. Select the Publish Navigator tab.
  2. How?

  3. Create a publication.
    1. On the Action menu, point to New, and then click Publication.
    2. Click the Publication tab.
    3. Type the My First Publication in the Name box.
    4. Select the ellipsis button next to the Publication Folder box to select a folder for your new publication. Select any publication folder and click OK to close the Select Publication Folder window.
    5. Type An ecclectic collection of delicious recipes in the Comments box.
    6. Select the Blue (US Letter) template from the Template File list.
    7. Click the ellipsis button next to the Index File box to select an index concordance file. Select Concordance File.txt.
    8. Note An index concordance file is a text file that lists the words and phrases that should be automatically indexed. See Create an index concordance file for more information about index files.

  4. Add publication chapters.
    1. Click the Items tab.
    2. Click Add to add a new publication item.
    3. Select Chapter and click Next.
    4. Enter Soups in the Chapter Name box. Click Finish to close the Add Publication Item window.
    5. Repeat step 4 to add three more chapters: Salads, Main Dishes, and Desserts.
  5. Add publication recipes.
    1. Select the Soups chapter.
    2. Click Add to add a new publication item.
    3. Select Recipe and click Next.
    4. Select a soup recipe. Click Finish to close the Add Publication Item window.
    5. Repeat steps 2 through 4 to add more soup, salad, main dish and dessert recipes.
    6. Tip Click Move Up or Move Down to change the order of recipes and chapters.

      Tip You can also use drag and drop to rearrange chapters and recipes..

    7. Click OK to close the New Publication window.
  6. Export the publication to Microsoft Word.
    1. Make sure the new publication still selected. On the Action menu, point to Other Actions, then click Export to Microsoft Word.
    2. Select a name for you publication (e.g. My Publication.doc).
    3. Verify that the Template File and Index File entries are correct.
    4. Click Start Export to begin the publication export process.
    5. When the export has completed, click Close to close the Export Publication to Microsoft Word window.
    6. Note Publications can take a few minutes to export..
